General Tuning Questions

Do you tune JB4?

We do not offer any specialty calibration services for the JB4 platform.

Does the tune void my warranty?

The short answer is, it depends. The warranty coverage will range widely from dealer to dealer. The dealership will have to prove your modifications have caused the issue you are bringing it in for. The discretion will vary widely from dealer to dealer.

From our experience, most dealerships will care more about hardware than a tune. We also provide a stock file to flash before you go into the dealership for work. Our suggestion is also to speak with your local service advisor and see what they have to say.

I am not local to the Houston area. Do I have to visit a dyno shop to get tuned?

No worries! We have customers all over the globe! Many of which are not near a performance-related shop. All you need is a smartphone and an e-mail account. We have thousands of customers who have never visited a shop or dyno, and are enjoying our performance calibrations.

What’s the difference between remote street tuning and dyno tuning?

Remote Street Tuning: This option is the most popular among our customers. It doesn’t require a visit to a performance shop or dyno. All you need is an EcuTek Bluetooth module and a smartphone. You’ll perform wide-open throttle pulls on an appropriate road course, and we’ll guide you through the process with detailed instructions and video tutorials.

Dyno Tuning: This involves placing the vehicle on a dynamometer (dyno), which simulates road conditions while the engine runs. Dyno tuning allows for real-time data feedback and is ideal for customers who want quicker completion of the tuning process or to see specific power numbers. However, we may still require a street data log since load conditions can differ between the dyno and actual driving. Dyno tuning usually costs more due to equipment rental fees.

What’s the difference between OTS and Custom tuning?

OTS (Off-The-Shelf): Designed for quick, easy tuning with pre-configured maps. It’s perfect for stock vehicles and comes with two maps (daily and race), basic launch control, and no revisions. It does not support ethanol blends, race gas, methanol, or aftermarket turbos.

Custom Tuning: Tailored to maximize your car’s potential. Custom tuning involves multiple revisions, making it ideal for vehicles with modifications like ethanol blends, high-performance fuel pumps, and aftermarket turbos. This option supports map switching (e.g., low boost, high boost) and advanced launch control. Custom tuning is our most popular choice, offering significant power gains over OTS maps.

Remote Tuning

How does remote tuning work?

Remote tuning allows us to calibrate your vehicle’s ECU from anywhere, without requiring an in-person visit. Here’s how it works:

  1. Purchasing: Select your platform (e.g., Infiniti, BMW) from the Racemode drop-down menu on our website and choose the appropriate options. An EcuTek Bluetooth module is required for remote street tuning. If you have questions, call us at (832) 786-9038.
  2. Preparation: Ensure all maintenance items (e.g., oil changes, spark plugs, filters, etc.) are up to date. Install any modifications you’ve communicated to us (e.g., larger intakes, high-pressure fuel pumps) before flashing your car with the base calibration file.
  3. Process: You’ll receive a base calibration file and detailed flashing and data logging instructions. A fully charged battery or a battery tender is highly recommended during the flashing process. Custom tuning customers will log data for review, while OTS tuning doesn’t require data logging.
  4. Completion: After completing the data logging and revisions, we’ll finalize the tune and offer additional map options if desired.

How long does the remote tuning process take?

Remote tuning typically takes 6-10 business days from the time you receive your EcuTek kit. Response time from customers and overall tuning volume can affect this timeline.

If you haven’t heard from us within three business days, call (832) 786-9038 for an update.

What do I need for remote tuning?

For BMW platforms: A Windows OS-based laptop is required for the first flash. Subsequent flashes can often be done using a phone.

For Infiniti/Nissan platforms: You’ll need an EcuTek Bluetooth module and a modern smartphone.

Modifications and Maintenance

What modifications do I need to tune my car?

None! Many customers enjoy our Racemode calibration even on stock vehicles. Both OTS and Custom mapping options can boost the power of your VR30-powered vehicle in its stock form.

What modifications do you suggest for beginners?

Start by ensuring your vehicle is up to date on maintenance items like fluids, filters, spark plugs, drive belts etc. For performance, we recommend:

1. Upgraded heat exchanger

2. Free-flowing exhaust system

3. Larger intake system

If you need help selecting parts, contact us at (832) 786-9038 or sales@goracebox.com.

How should I maintain my Infiniti Q50, Q60, or Nissan Z VR30?

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and performance of your Infiniti Q50, Q60, or Nissan Z equipped with the VR30 engine. Regularly monitor and replace fluids, filters, and spark plugs to ensure optimal operation. Adhering to a consistent maintenance schedule not only enhances reliability but also maximizes your vehicle’s performance. Warranty and Support

Does a tune void my warranty?

While it varies by dealer, most warranties focus on hardware modifications rather than ECU tunes. However, dealers must prove the tune caused the issue to void your warranty. To minimize risks, we provide a stock tune file for flashing before dealership visits.

Discuss your tuning plans with your local service advisor for additional clarity.

What are your response times?

We aim to reply within 24-48 hours during business days. For custom tuning customers, revisions are usually sent daily unless we’re exceptionally busy, in which case it may take closer to 48 hours.

We provide lifelong data log reviews and offer support via phone, email, or text.

If I get stuck, how can I contact you?

For urgent questions, call us at (832) 786-9038 (M-F, 9 AM–6 PM CST). Tuning-specific inquiries are best handled via email, including data logs and any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Reply to your most recent email thread for continuity.
